Athletics Program

MCA Basketball

Movement Collaborative Academy is a faith-based, academically rigorous, sports focused competitive homeschool basketball organization for boys and girls, 8-18 years of age. We provide a one-stop-shop environment for the elite student-athlete. MCA Basketball will participate in East Coast National Homeschool.

Movement Collaborative Academy help student-athletes reach the highest levels in sports, education and their personal development. Through talent identification, Christian curricula, increased practice times, individualized programming, comprehensive long-term sports development, expert coaching, and Christian faith-based mentoring, we help maximize a student-athlete’s education, sports skills, abilities, and character.

Movement Collaborative Academy was formed by Pastor Dre Burgs to give players the opportunity and benefits of good fellowship and competition with Christ-centered peers, families and coaches. All coaches and student athletes are expected to encourage and grow in Christ-like character. Having the opportunity to play sports is simply a platform for character development. Players learn the importance of working with others, respecting those in authority including officials, and maturing as a disciple through participation in athletics.

Movement Collaborative Academy is blessed to have skilled coaches with the expertise and heart to nurture and develop every player's skill and knowledge of the game of basketball to a level beyond his/her own expectations. Players that take full advantage of the opportunities offered to them including quality practice time, training on dietary needs, etc., will continue to develop towards their maximum potential.

Definition of a HomeSchool Student-Athlete

"Homeschooling" is defined to mean that a student’s education is parent-directed.As such, the parents shall be involved in their child’s education by assuming the role of principal or headmaster, thereby
(1) setting the date and requirements for high school graduation;
(2) selecting and approving course materials and study schedules; and
(3) selecting tutors, correspondence courses, videos, computer courses, and similar resources for their child’s education.

HomeSchooling would also include the person of legal responsibility* of the student filling the role of a parent.

51% Rule

For clarification purposes, a normal course load for a full-time student is six (6) core courses;
therefore, if a student-athlete is taking more than three (3) courses at a public, private, or vocational,
he/she is not considered 51% homeschooled. If there are special circumstances, a student may apply for a hardship exemption.

Age Restrictions

A player’s age group is determined by his/her age on September 1, of the current school year.
For example, a player who is 16 on September 1, but turns 17 on October 5th is considered eligible
to play in the 16-and-under age group at NCHC events. Players may play in a higher age group, if desired.
In Basketball we offer 10u, 12u, 14u, 16u, & 18u age groups.
